Exploring the south west coast of Spain

We set off for our road trip in a little red Fiat Panda which we immediately nickname “Po” (as in from Kung Fu Panda). Panda is an apt name for this car, as it moves very slowly! We end up travelling about 2,500km over 10 days in Po, including down some dodgy “roads” to the beach.  She was definitely returned a bit worse for wear! We had just finished two weeks sailing in Gibraltar at the southern tip of Spain, so that was our starting point. From Gibraltar we made our way along the south west coast of Spain, eventually to Lisbon in Portugal. There is so much...

Learning to sail in the Strait of Gibraltar!

With less than 12 months to go in Beijing, Wayne and I have been talking about what we want our next adventure to be. We had a brainstorm about what things make us the happiest, and our list looked something like this: Being outside – we love the great outdoors, and our holidays usually centre around some kind of outdoor activity like skiing, scuba diving or hiking.  We’re also keen to be somewhere with fresh air and lots of sunshine! Madrid

It’s almost too easy to while away the afternoon people watching in a plaza over a jug of sangria and some tapas. Although we were in Madrid during winter we had beautiful warm sunny days with clear blue skies, perfect for relaxing in the many parks. One day we took the cable car to Casa de Campo the enormous park in Madrid which is a great day out, it was really nice to be out in what felt like the middle of bushland.  You could easily pack a picnic of some local produce and...

Barcelona

Barcelona is a beautiful city with of a strong sense of character and culture fused with a relaxed beachside feel. With breathtaking architecture, seaside fun and an abundance of delicious food and wine it’s hard not to love Barca. We stayed in an apartment in the Gothic quarter which I would definitely recommend, it was a great neighbourhood and easy to get around.       Gaudi Town Barcelona is home to many unique and quirky buildings thanks to it’s infamous architect Antoni Gaudi, said to be half madman half genius.     Palau Güell (above) is a mansion...
