London

I first visited London almost ten years ago.  Since then a good friend of mine has moved there, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to add a stopover to the end of my Europe trip. London greets me with a cloudy day and temperature of about 15 degrees celsius – how’s that for “summer”!  Thankfully throughout the week the temperature does increase, and there’s even blue sky on a few days. My friend graciously hosts me in her beautiful apartment, which is conveniently located near Earl’s Court tube station.  The London underground is not cheap, but it...

Where to eat healthy in Paris and get good coffee!

Oh Paris.  My fourth visit and I am still enthralled by this city. There is so much to do and see, and so much pleasure had in simply being in Paris. The culture, the buildings, the people – sophistication oozes from every aspect.  Not to mention the gastronomic pleasures that await. Usually known for it’s bread, cheese and wine, there are still plenty of places to get good quality food filled with nourishing fresh ingredients in the City of Light.  Here are some of my favourites 🙂 My Free Kitchen offer daily specials including freshly made quiches, vegetable breads, salads and...

Lisbon

After days spent relaxing on beaches we leave sunny Lagos and drive north to Lisbon. The capital of Portugal, Lisbon is a quintessentially European city with beautiful churches, plazas, cobblestoned streets, winding alleyways and distinct neighbourhoods. The cobblestones here are particularly impressive and beautiful, as limestone has been used to create various decorative patterns which are like a living artwork.     Colourfully tiled buildings glint in the sun and trams make their way along leafy streets, while locals sip espresso and tourists window shop. To get a better idea of...

Lagos

We had been making our way along the Spanish coast, and after leaving Huelva we headed into Portugal. Our first stop was Lagos, known for it’s stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife. Ancient walls enclose the old town which is a criss-cross of cobbled streets lined with restaurants, bars and hostels. It’s peak season so it is very busy, particularly around meal time within the old town walls. Families and backpackers stroll through the streets and fill the many cafes, while travel agents line the boulevard selling boat trips, bike hire and kayaking tours of the famous grottos....

Exploring the south west coast of Spain

Exploring the south west coast of Spain

We set off for our road trip in a little red Fiat Panda which we immediately nickname “Po” (as in from Kung Fu Panda). Panda is an apt name for this car, as it moves very slowly! We end up travelling about 2,500km over 10 days in Po, including down some dodgy “roads” to the beach.  She was definitely returned a bit worse for wear! We had just finished two weeks sailing in Gibraltar at the southern tip of Spain, so that was our starting point. From Gibraltar we made our way along the south west coast of Spain, eventually to Lisbon in Portugal. There is so much...
